  1. In the advance setting, in the Markup section what is the difference in the color options? My current setting is by author but the box is split with two colors.

Sometimes when making changes, my change and the other parties change both say Author. Could that be because of the way my advance setting is set up?

    1. (a) “By Author” means each author gets his/her own color for changes. The box is “split with two colors” because the color for any particular author depends on that person’s identity (you cannot control it directly).

      (b) How the Author is identified depends on what the individual user has put here for their user info (File tab > Options):

      Where Author info comes from

      1. So if a document is sent to me for edits and the original sender has set up their "Personalized your copy of Microsoft Office" User Name as "Author", could that be why when I go to make changes it list me also as Author but in a different color?

Can I change the "Personalized your copy of Microsoft Office" User Name when I receive a document to show my name ? If so, will the sender then be identified as Author and I identified by my name when making changes?

BTW… sorry for the late reply but I did not understand your reply when first sent but in re-reading your reply and looking at the Word Options in documents I send out and in documents I receive, I think I have a better understanding of what you were trying to explain.
