  1. This was a bit confusing regarding the default personal template location. I could not see what you had for yours, so I did not understand if we have to put it in any location we wanted. I have Microsoft Business 365 and SharePoint, which I am learning. It is extremely confusing, but moving forward….

    1. I deliberately blur the file path on my personal computer for security reasons. If you’re using Office 365, your template location is likely C:\Users\[username]\[organization name]\Documents\Custom Office Templates. If you go into your OneDrive for Business folder, you should see Custom Office Templates under the Documents folder in your organization’s OneDrive account.

  2. Was excited to find out a way to locate my templates quickly! Created my first template just a few weeks ago after watching your you-tube video about custom footers. That you-tube video was what convinced me to buy the Basic Word Skill class.

  3. Hi Deb,
This is not working for me. I keep getting a message that says the folder is not valid. I have tried several times. I have the document open, go to file, options, save, and attempt to input the path that I have copies form file explorer. Any advice? I cannot figure out how to save any of the templates. I am using the downloaded form of Word 2019.

  4. Hello,

I had success in modifying the normal template and saving it but when I open a previously saved document the template modifications are gone. If I open a new document all my modified templates, normal, no spacing, headings 1 and 2, are sticking. Is there a way to have the templates available when opening an existing document?

    Thank you.

    1. Any changes you make to a template (whether it’s the Normal one or another) are effective for any _future_ documents you create with that template. That template doesn’t “reach back” and change any previously-created documents.
