Why your pages break in weird places, part two

Unless otherwise noted, all instructions and screenshots are from Microsoft Office for Windows.

Here’s the video tutorial I promised showing exactly why Block Protect can mess up your pagination seemingly beyond repair:
Word 2002/2003:

(To see this in full-screen mode, click the button in the lower-right-hand corner of the video player.)

Word 2007/2010:

Notice that, to diagnose the problem, I turned on all of the Formatting Marks using Tools, Options in version 2002/2003 or the Show/Hide button in 2007/2010. That enabled me to see the evidence of too much Block Protect: those little squares to the left of the text.

Once I highlighted all the text with CNTRL-A, I could turn off all the Block Protect in Format, Paragraph in the Line and Page Breaks tab.

That Show All Formatting Marks feature is so handy that I’ve added it to my Formatting Toolbar permanently in version 2002/2003 (it’s standard in 2007/2010). But that’s another video tutorial

I spend an inordinate amount of my time playing with computers and attempting to explain technology to lawyers and law office staff. It's not always easy, but someone's got to do it.
